I live in Falmouth, which is in cornwall, UK. Its a great place. I will look into music therapy, any websites you recomend?

There's not too much out there on the web about it right now. I recommend just going into Google and searching around. There are a few great programs for it here in the US. There are degree programs, but there are also a lot of people doing it uncertified... just depends on what you do. Since it is so new, there isn't much regulation here in the US. There are some good books out there too. I will see if I can find some of the books that were recommended for me and post them up here (links). Good luck on your new journey!

Wow, it's so cool to meet other players who are drawn to working with children with special needs, health concerns, etc. I worked in Special Ed for 5 years and now perform full time doing my Bubble Wonders show. It was experiences in special ed that led to my taking that leap of faith 3 years ago to leave and to follow a path with heart. So, as I say in my show, southcoastrob, "Anything is Possible!"

nice to have you on board my friend - your bubble shows are greeeeeeeeaaaaaat!!

there are quite a few of us on this forum that work with s e n groups...and i for one find the hang a valuable tool for my work!

Hi Everyone,

Its been a while since I last updated this thread. I enrolled on a Sound Therapy Course a few months ago and I am now 2 months into the 2 year course :)

After much hunting I found a course that was decent, they have been running for 10 years and seems to be the best course in the UK and they are starting to branch out to other countries, it seems Germany is starting to recognise these courses now as well.

2 years seems a long time but I bet it will zoom pass.

It's great to hear that so many people want to work with kids with special needs. I work with many of these types of children and adolescents, as I am in the counseling field. As you can guess, I deal with a wide, wide, range of issues. I do lots and lots of art therapy work with the younger kids, but I was recently thinking about trying some music stuff, too. I think it would be so valuable because many kids don't have the capacity to express themselves with words, which is why I use art therapy. Music would be just as effective, and fun! :)

This is going to sound really far out.....I just logged on and usually the Board Index page comes up, but tonight it went straight to Lost and Found :?
Even more bizarre is the fact that I have never been on this page or topic before...... :shock:

I believe there is a reason for this because earlier this evening, Elyssia, my 7 year old daughter ( who has autism and learning difficulties) said something really profound about feeling 'Lost' I will share it with you.....

"If you're lost, like you're in a maze, and you can't find your way out, you don't need to be afraid....because Jesus will come and find you, and not just find you, He will lead you out!"

Wow, this is a pretty crazy thread and the coincidence of me being here is interesting, but not nearly as much as josiah said previously. I rarely go outside of a couple of the pan houses, the tongue drums house and of course staying on top of the swap and sales, but today i am just clicking around during lunch (at work) and the title "LOST" just sparked my interest enough to click it and i have been feeling the same way, but i know that i need to make a change when the time is right to make it...I'm just jumping in to reply to add some excerpts from a Steve Jobs' speech gave at the 2005 Stanford graduation that hit home with me when i stumbled onto it a few weeks ago. Like i said, these are a couple excerpts from the speech, but for someone so accomplished (personal note, until i started reading more about the guy i wasn't a huge fan), he had the right outlook on life. I copied the link to it at the bottom if you want to read the rest, he does talk about finding what you love in the middle of the address, but after hearing the support of others, i went with the "life's too short" section of it...

'When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.'
