Lost: My Open Hearted Enthusiasm

Postby GotHang » Fri Mar 09, 2012 11:08 pm

As a result of many factors I don't feel the same joie de vivre around the steel since early last year.

Perhaps I'm just getting older.

I got that way in past, and still do at times, with losing my 2 reg-preforming partners, most of my family passing away, and filing chapter 13 and the reg job which I hate... The wife helped telling me to preform more with comedy for public, and get the equip I need for my garage glass shop, and face jugs... For me its doing all of that, keeping mind off reg job , wife said I can quit after chapter 13, and just entertain and glass and clay, Got my Cirque and Ringling buddies that keep me in check, always asking did I get that pan drum yet, I say not yet, and they make me show them what I been working on for myself.... Maybe you need a new loving home for your pan...

I could provide that home if you like...

Isn't that just a natural phase? Maybe to make people try out some new things...

I know the more often I play the less I keep in mind how ice handpans sound... I have to stop playing for a few days to get my mind blown all over again.

As for joie de vivre, many people these days don't have any, at all, so I guess it's relative :)

Sorry to hear that.
Judging from your silent but very consistent contribution to this forum in the random café, where thanks to you we can find out about interesting, sometimes amazing things of all sorts, I wouldn't imagine your feelings.
It's just almost an year since I discovered handpans, I only have a disco and am waiting to meet my Spb next month so my enthusiasm goes up in the skies right now ;) So I can't say I know how it feels. Luckily, I don't.
Just hope for you it will go away!

My 2 cents:

Enthusiasm is not a balanced emotional state, so it cannot be sustained forever. As with any long-term relationship, the key is not the initial level of infatuation that triggered it, but making the successful transition to a deep appreciation that survives the low points. To make earth from fire.

A handpan starts out as a new love; the challenge is to make it part of your family. A bittersweet process: we try to cling to the wonderful state of being infatuated, but we can't. All we have is the memory, the ashes of the burnt-out fire - and the continued presence of who/what fuelled that fire. But that is something. Ashes are fertile; perhaps a plant can grow.

With my best wishes, GotHang.

Well-said, Lino. Sometimes the soul needs a break and a change - I can't imagine the love of Hang not enduring over some rough spots. Combine Art, Music, Nature - and friends to be found here, and that new plant may grow from the Earth and engender fire again, too!
